BBC2’s Working Lunch tries skimboarding!

Article originally published in 2004.

As a Working Lunch viewer for a couple of years, I thought I would drop them an email to see if they would feature Sandskater on the program.

For those of you which have never seen the program before, one of the features is “Rob on the Road”, where they send a outside broadcast crew and presenter Rob Pittam to various locations in the UK to feature UK small businesses.

So last week I dropped an email to the program inviting them down to Torbay to find out more about Sandskater and the skimboarding business.

To my surprise I got a phone call on Tuesday 13th May to say they would love to feature us, and that will be down the following day. Talk about short notice! That evening I frantically emailed local skimmers from Torbay, Plymouth and Exeter asking them to show up for the TV shoot.

So at 4pm on Wednesday 14th May we all turned up at Preston Beach in Paignton. Waves were nearly non existent, but Rob the presenter got stuck in and tried skimboarding for the first time and I am glad to say we say we had a good turn out of about 8 skimboarders. Every one enjoyed themselves, and everybody got a chance to be interviewed.

Thanks must go out to everybody who turned up to help make the feature: Adam Cardew, Ben Davis, Paul Ahern, Robbie Savage and his brother and of course Robbie’s mates!
